It is possible to set out from Brione Verzasca (at 758 metres above sea level) by taking the road up the valley that leads Osola (Val d'Osura). After an hour and a half, you leave the road and take an easy, flattish path into the forest, with occasional views out over the river. It takes about two hours to reach the Osola refuge (at 1418 metres above sea level), where you can stop to take a meal or even stay overnight.
If the Osola refuge happens to be full, it's an hour's detour to the next refuge, Sambuco (at 1895 metres above sea level).
From Osola, there is a steeper path leading up to the Corte del Fornée (1697 metres above sea level).
From there, continue towards Bocchetta Canova and then take the downhill path for the Spluga refuge (1838 metres above sea level) in the Maggia Valley, where it is possible to spend the night. At this stage, you can either turn round and take the same route back to Brione Verzasca or to continue down to the bottom of the Maggia Valley, heading for Giumaglio.
